Gaelle's adventures

Week 25

Monday 15th June 2009

We took the campervan to go to Zion National Park. We had to drive through a tunnel. We went on a walk to see a pool where we could not swim because there were bacteria and the water was a bit green. Then we went on another walk to see the river but the rest of the walk you had to walk in the river!

Tuesday 16th June 2009

We went to Bryce Canyon. We went on a walk of 2 hours between the hoodoos, columns of rocks: it was magnificent. The colours of the rocks were white, yellow and red.

Wednesday 17th June 2009

We drove a long way today along the scenic highway 12 and 24. We visited Escalante Petrified Forest where we saw fossilised tree trunks. Then we saw some petroglyphs made by Indians. There were animals and humans.

Thursday 18th June 2009

We visited Arches National Park. We went on two long walks and one little walk. We saw lots of arches made with rocks. We saw Turret Arch, Pine Tree Arch, Navajo Arch Landsacpe Arch and the prettiest was Delicate Arch.

Friday 19th June 2009

We went on a walks with rangers to see Indian houses [at Mesa Verde]. There were ladders that we climbed down and up to get to the cliff dwellings. It was fun!! We also climbed into a kiva, a ceremonial underground hut.

Saturday 20th June 2009

We went to Monument Valley: we saw buttes and mesas in the desert. A lot of the famous westerns were filmed here. Then we went to see dinosaur tracks and we could see their claws.

Sunday 21st June 2009

We drove to see old Indian stone houses in the cliffs. We then went to Sunset Crater, a volcanic crater with lots of lava flows. Then we went to see some more Indian ruins and I earned a Junior Ranger badge. Finally we went to Meteor Crater, a huge hole in the ground formed by a big meteor from Space. I lost my hippopotamus there; I'm very sad.
